The Historical Core of Split – Diocletian’s Palace

The most treasured part of Split is its historical core, Diocletian’s Palace, which has been under UNESCO protection since 1979. What makes it special:

Roman Emperor Diocletian had the palace built in the late 3rd and early 4th century as his luxurious retirement residence.
The palace is not just an ancient ruin – it is a living city. Inside its walls are homes, shops, cafes, churches, and museums. People still live there today, making it unique in the world.
The Peristyle, the central square of the palace, is a frequent venue for cultural events and open-air opera performances.
The Cathedral of Saint Domnius, originally Diocletian’s mausoleum, is the oldest cathedral in the world still in use.
The cellars of the palace (Diocletian’s basements) are perfectly preserved, showcasing Roman architecture, and were also featured in the Game of Thrones series.

Diocletian was the only Roman emperor who voluntarily abdicated – he retired to his palace in Split.

Is parking available ?

Private parking is available upon request. The number of parking spaces is limited, and reservation is required.

Parking is charged per vehicle / per night:

Car: €25.00 per night
Motorcycle / ATV: €15.00 per night
Bicycle: €5.00 per night

Please note that parking availability must be confirmed by the Samstag team for your reservation period. Free public parking may also be available nearby, but it cannot be reserved.

Can I check in earlier ?

Standard check-in begins at 3:00 PM. We understand that some guests may wish to access their accommodation earlier, and we will always do our best to accommodate such requests whenever possible. However, we kindly ask for your understanding, as check-out for previous guests is between 10:00 and 11:00 AM, depending on the property and reservation policy. We need sufficient time to thoroughly clean, disinfect, and prepare each accommodation unit to ensure a clean and safe space for all our guests.

If availability allows, we will gladly offer an early check-in, but this can only be confirmed on the day of arrival. For quicker communication, feel free to send us a message via WhatsApp.

Can I leave my luggage ?

You can leave your luggage in the hallway of the accommodation facility, at your own risk. We have never had any unpleasant experiences so far.
If you prefer to leave the luggage at the facility, please fill out this registration form and we weill send you the access pin code for the entrance door.

We would also like to point out that there are luggage storage offices and lockers nearby. They are located at the Main Bus Station and the Railway station, within 10 min walking distance from our facility and around 5 min walking distance from the centre, Old Town.

Why do I have to pay the City Tax ?

Like all companies that provide accommodation in the city of Split, we are obliged to collect the city (tourist) tax. We would like to note that the city tax is not taxable and is not the income of our company, but exclusively of the Tourist Boards, and we collect it exclusively as intermediaries.

City tax is charged per night / per person:
1,86 € for stays in January, February, March, October, November and December
2,86 € for stays in April, May, June, July, August and September

City tax can be paid by card, via bank transfer or via PayPal.
City tax can also be paid at the accommodation facility, in cash.

Can I check in late, outside of reception hours ?

Late check-in is only possible through “Smart Self Check-In” option.

Feel free to request “Smart Self Check-In” during our working hours (at least 1 hour before 00:00). After filling out an online eVisitor registration form, you will receive simple check-in instructions including property address, photos and access codes for the doors.

We would like to note that we are not responsible if you are unable to check in after our working hours because our employees will not be available to provide support.
In the event of a failed check-in after the designated check-in time, the reservation will be charged in full according to the policy under which it was made.

Can I get twin beds ?

Twin beds are not available at this property. All beds are arranged as double beds and cannot be separated.

Are pets allowed ?

Pets are welcome to our accommodation facility.

The fee for your pet(s) is charged per pet / per night.

The fee for one pet is 10,00 euros per night (including VAT).
The fee for additional pet is 5,00 euros per night (including VAT).

The fee can be paid by credit card, bank transfer or PayPal.
